CUVKUN is a 4 year project led by the United Nations Development Programme and funded by the Global Environment Facility with support from Global Water Partnership Southern Africa as the Executing Agency which aims to improve the management of water resources of the transboundary Cuvelai and Kunene Basins shared by Angola and Namibia.

The basins, the people and why this project matters.

The Cuvelai and Kunene basins, which straddle Angola and Namibia, are emblematic of the challenges faced across the African continent: intensifying climate impacts, growing water demand, degraded ecosystems, and the need to ensure that communities have secure, sustainable livelihoods.

The CUVKUN project is important because it provides a joint, integrated framework for Angola and Namibia to address the shared, complex water-related challenges in the Cuvelai and Kunene basins. By fostering transboundary cooperation, the project aims to build water security and community resilience for the millions of people who depend on these basins for their livelihoods.
